Tupac Shakur’s message of social justice was inspired in part by his family members who were in the Black Panther Party.
MVCC Professor of English and guitarist for local band CP Jim Roberts will teach a class at the Mohawk Valley Freedom School on Wednesday, April 22 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm titled “Social Justice and Music.” He will look at the impact music has had on social justice movements in this country. Special attention will be given to the labor movement, the abolitionist struggle, the folk revival of the 1960s, the IWW’s Little Red Song book, and hip hop. Students will listen, discuss, and perhaps even sing a number of songs. Come to this free class if you want to learn about social justice in a four part harmony!
The Freedom School is located at Cornerstone Community Church, 500 Plant Street in Utica, NY.
